As probably everyone in my family and friendship circle is aware, I am a beauty addict.
To me, there is no better feeling than having a new delivery come through the post, or the feeling of trying it out for the first time and absolutely loving it (there’s also no worse feeling than being unimpressed by a purchase, but that’s a whole other topic).
However, recently I have been really liking things that I can use in more than one way.
For example, I have some highlighting drops from Hard Candy which can be added to foundation, or used as a primer, or even put on your cheekbones over foundation, and that’s what I love about them.
I also have the Anastasia Beverly Hills That Glow glow kit, which has a shade that is way too dark for me to use as a highlighter, but takes a bronze smokey eye to the next level.
But, for me, although these products are great, there is one product which really holds it’s own on the versatility scale – it’s like the Legendary Pokemon of the cosmetics world (but the way they were valued in the older games, since in the newer ones there’s like 20 in each game).
Liquid Lipsticks have become a huge thing in the beauty industry lately, and along with the half decent, there are also the bad (one actually took all the skin off my entire bottom lip) – and then there are the best of the best.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, if you know about makeup, you will probably have heard about Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks.
You may have even signed up to the Stock Notifications on Cocktail Cosmetics (like me) and be waiting on the next delivery so you can grab some of the shades you’re missing.
And there are SO. MANY. SHADES.
Every time I want a strange, uncommon lipstick colour, I head straight to Jeffree Star – because I know he’ll come through for me, and the pigmentation will slay. And every time they are restocked, this is pretty much what happens;
But that’s not the best part. Not even close. Along with the amazing colours, cry worthy pigmentation, and also the fact that they last all day, they are also super versatile.
Obviously, their intended use is as a lipstick. But that never stopped Instagram – and it sure as hell won’t stop me.
I am a fan(atic) of winged liner. I love it, and when my liner is on fleek, I feel like I tend to have a better day, and I feel way more comfortable roasting the people I hate (sorry, guys).
However, I have the worst eyes for winged liner. I mean one minute it’s all going good, and the next minute it’s transferred up near my eyebrow (thank you, oily lids).
And nothing helps. Eyeshadow primer does nothing (it does keep my eyeshadow on like a dream, though – so thanks Urban Decay) – I have also tried every consistency going – Gel, Liquid, Pen, Pencil. The only liner that ever stayed on me was the Benefit push up liner, and that one just drags like a bitch.
It’s like my eyes just didn’t want me to look as good as I wanted to look.
However, recently I decided to do a very natural smoky eye (natural for me, anyway) – and I just wasn’t feeling black eye liner, but I also didn’t own any other colours.
I had a root through my makeup bag, and came across my Jeffree Star ‘Dominatrix’ liquid lipstick. I had seen a lot of people trying Jeffree’s liquid lipsticks out as eye liners on Instagram, but the thought never really crossed my mind.
However, I decided to try it out, and I can honestly say I don’t think I can go back. The application was flawless, the drying time was highly impressive, it lasted all day with no movement, and I could apply it with brushes, preventing the drag I got using my Benefit liner.
However, all these points are nothing compared to the fact that it didn’t transfer. Not even on me, the world’s most difficult eye liner wearer.
It is that which made me order 2 more shades as soon as I could (it was last month, in case you’re reading this, dad – however I can’t guarantee my 4th isn’t on the way).
I would consider myself fully converted at this point.
Move over fiddly pens, pots of gel, and smudge-prone pencils. There’s a new guy in town.
He’s liquid, he’s matte, he doesn’t smudge and he’s also a hella cute lipstick. He might just be the best thing I’ve ever found.
